Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Rathr ("we", "us") collects when you use wouldyouratherquestions.app and how it is used. The short version: you don't need an account, we don't ask for your name or email to play, and we keep what we collect to a minimum.
What we collect
Votes. When you pick an option, we record an anonymous increment to that option's total for the question, so we can show the percentages. The vote is not linked to your name or account, because there are none.
Anonymous play statistics. After you've played a couple of rounds, your browser may send us a summary of your session: a random session ID generated in your browser, the number of rounds played, how many picks were in the minority, ties, your best streak, how many predictions you made and got right, and your play-style tier. We use this only to compute comparisons such as "you're more contrarian than X% of players." The session ID is random and is not tied to your identity.
Technical data. Like any website, our servers and hosting provider receive your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested as part of delivering the site. We use a one-way, salted hash of your IP address (not the address itself) to limit abuse of the statistics service, and your IP address is briefly used in memory to limit rapid-fire voting. We don't use your IP address to identify you.
Feedback you send. If you use the feedback form, we receive your message, the type you selected, the page you were on (path only), and basic device details: device type, operating system, browser, screen size, and light/dark theme. Don't include personal or sensitive information in your message. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write.
Cookies & local storage
We don't set our own cookies. We use your browser's local and session storage to make the game work, including remembering your theme (light/dark), animation (motion) setting, sound on/off, which questions you've already seen in the current session, your session stats and stats-panel state, emoji reactions, whether you've seen the help tips or the motion tip, and (where party rooms are available) a random token that identifies you within a room. This data stays on your device. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings, which will reset those preferences and your session stats.
Party rooms and question submissions
Party rooms and question submissions may be paused or unavailable at times. When available: if you create or join a room, the room code, the nickname you choose, a random session token, your votes, and any comments are visible to other participants in that room and stored on our servers only so the game can run. Room data is automatically deleted about 24 hours after the room ends. Please don't use your real name or personal details as a nickname or in comments. If you submit a question, we store the text you submit and the optional name you provide so we can review it, and we may publish approved questions without attribution.
Advertising and affiliate links
The main site may show advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads and measure their performance, which may include personalised ads based on your browsing. You can manage ad personalisation in Google's Ads Settings or learn more at Google's advertising policy page. Our adult section does not use AdSense; it may include affiliate links to third-party products, which may pay us a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. Those third parties have their own privacy practices, and we don't control them.
Third parties we rely on
- Cloudflare hosts the site and its database, and provides content delivery and security. It processes requests (including IP addresses) on our behalf.
- Web3Forms delivers feedback-form messages to our inbox. Messages you submit pass through its service.
- Google AdSense, if enabled, as described above.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it except with these providers as needed to run the site, or where required by law.
How long we keep data
Aggregate vote totals and anonymous play statistics are kept for as long as they're useful for showing results and comparisons. Room data is deleted automatically about 24 hours after the room ends. Feedback and emails are kept as long as needed to respond and improve the site. Data stored in your browser stays there until you clear it.
Children
Rathr is a general-audience site and is not designed to collect personal information from children. We don't ask for names, emails, or ages, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Our adult section is intended for visitors 18 and older. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your choices and rights
You can clear your browser's local and session storage at any time, block cookies in your browser settings, and opt out of personalised ads as described above. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or similar laws), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or object to the use of personal information we hold about you. Because we don't collect names or accounts, we usually can't link our anonymous data to a specific person, but if you email us we'll do what we reasonably can.
Security
We use HTTPS and limit the data we collect, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
